A beautiful smile is a sight to behold! But it’s hard to smile when you have crooked, gapped, or crowded teeth. At Las Cruces Dental Associates, PC, we offer orthodontic services to patients in Las Cruces, New Mexico, to help resolve alignment issues and transform your smile’s appearance.
Orthodontics is the branch of dentistry that addresses the alignment of your teeth. It offers a means of correcting alignment problems to improve your smile’s function, health, and appearance. Today, there are numerous options for orthodontic treatments, including traditional braces, clear aligners, lingual braces, ceramic braces, and others. We’ll help determine the option that best suits your goals and needs.
Through orthodontics, we can correct the following:
Straightening your teeth offers numerous benefits beyond the visible. Here are the benefits you can expect with orthodontic care in Las Cruces:
Maintaining teeth can be a challenge when wearing braces, but we’ll guide you on how to do it. Brush with fluoride toothpaste at least twice daily to combat plaque buildup. You should floss at least once a day, but doing it twice won’t hurt. Avoid sugar-filled food and drinks to minimize bacterial buildup in your mouth. Also, refrain from eating chewy, sticky, and hard food that can damage or easily get stuck in the brackets. Lastly, stay up to date with your dental check-ups so we can monitor the condition of your teeth and gums.
Treatment times will vary as every smile is different with distinct orthodontic needs. On average, most treatments last 1-3 years. Our office will guide you on timelines during your consultation.
Not really, although they can be irritating if the wires poke your gums or cheeks. Otherwise, it’s a matter of getting adjusted to their use. The braces may feel uncomfortable at first, and your mouth may feel sore, as you’re not used to having pressure applied to your teeth. However, that pressure indicates that your braces are working as they should.
Absolutely! Braces won’t keep you from activities you love, such as sports or playing a saxophone, clarinet, or flute. You’ll need to practice more often to get accustomed to playing an instrument with braces. As for sports, we recommend wearing a mouthguard to protect your braces and mouth from accidental injuries.
Once your braces are removed, you should wear a retainer to keep your smile aligned. Otherwise, your teeth may relapse to their old, misaligned positions.
